While some point to Paisley’s mass production of the formerly bespoke, artistically crafted pattern as a death of the art form and a devaluing of a once sacred icon used to symbolize status and wealth, the global proliferation it allowed gave resilient cultures around the world the access to reinvent the symbol. Through this globalization Paisley became a symbol for any and all cultures to express freedom, togetherness, and self expression.
